Open **Quick add** from the plus button at the top of the sidebar, or click **Add contact** on **Contacts** or **Add lead** on **Leads**. All three open the same dialog.

1. **Choose Contact or Lead**

    Pick the **Contact** tab for someone you know, such as a past client or your sphere. Pick **Lead** for someone you are working to win. A lead shows on **Leads**, and **Today** reminds you to follow up; a contact shows only on **Contacts**.

2. **Enter their name and details**

    **First name** is the only required field. Add **Last name**, **Email** and **Phone** if you have them.

3. **Choose a lead type and stage**

    Under **Lead type**, pick **Buyer**, **Seller**, **Buyer & Seller**, **Investor** or **Renter**. **Buyer** is selected to start with. **Stage** starts at the first lead stage, **New Lead**.

4. **Add a source and tags**

    On the **Lead** tab, **Source** records where they came from, such as Zillow, a referral or an open house. It shows on **Leads** and in **Analytics**. In **Tags**, separate tags with commas.

5. **Add an address, if you want**

    Click **Add address** to show **Address**, **City**, **State** and **Zip**.

6. **Save**

    Click **Add contact** or **Add lead**. The list you are on updates straight away.

## Phone numbers

The **Phone** field formats what you type as a US number, (555) 123-4567, and keeps 10 digits. Relivo saves it with the +1 country code, so the same number matches however it was typed. Numbers from outside the US and Canada can only come in through a [CSV import](/import-and-export/import-from-a-csv-file) or a lead form, written with + and the country code.

Adding someone here doesn't check for an existing contact with the same email or phone. Search first if you aren't sure they are already in Relivo. See [How Relivo spots duplicates](/contacts-and-leads/duplicates).
