A lead is a contact you are still working to win. There is only one record per person, and **Contacts** and **Leads** are two views of the same people.

## Who shows where

- **Contacts** lists everyone you have added: past clients, your sphere, active leads and current clients.
- **Leads** lists active leads who don't have a deal yet. As soon as someone has a deal, they are a client and leave **Leads**. They stay on **Contacts**, where their stage badge shows the deal.
- **Today** only follows up on active leads and clients. A contact who isn't a lead doesn't appear there unless they have a task due today or overdue.

## How someone becomes a lead

Someone is an active lead when:

- you add them on the **Lead** tab of **Quick add**, or with **Add lead** on **Leads**
- you import them from **Leads** (see [Import into Contacts or Leads](/import-and-export/import-into-contacts-or-leads))
- they are new to Relivo and come in through a lead form or a webhook, or send an inquiry from a property microsite
- you choose **Convert to active lead** on their record
- you add a deal for them

Someone stays a plain contact when you add them on the **Contact** tab, import them from **Contacts**, or bring them across from Follow Up Boss in a stage you mapped to **Contact only, not a lead**.

:::note
There is no button that turns a lead back into a plain contact. To take someone off **Leads**, add a deal for them, or delete them if you no longer need the record.
