Most providers ask for an app password before another app can use IMAP and SMTP. You create it in your provider's security settings, then use it as the password in Relivo's connect form. The same steps are in the **Before you connect** window in Relivo.

## Outlook / Microsoft 365

1. **Open your security settings**

In your Microsoft account, open Security, then Advanced security options.

2. **Turn on two-step verification**

Turn it on if it isn't already on.

3. **Create the app password**

Under "App passwords", create a new one and copy it.

4. **Use it to connect**

Use that code as the password when you connect.

:::tip
You can skip app passwords altogether with **Outlook / Microsoft 365** in **Settings** > **Email**. It signs in with Microsoft and also gives you two-way sync. Work or school accounts often have app passwords turned off, so this is usually the way to go for them.

## Yahoo Mail

1. **Open Account Security**

In your Yahoo account, open Account Security.

2. **Turn on two-step verification**

Turn it on if it isn't already on.

3. **Generate the app password**

Choose "Generate app password", name it "Relivo", and copy the code.

4. **Use it to connect**

Use that code as the password when you connect.

## Zoho Mail

1. **Turn on two-factor authentication**

In your Zoho account, open Security, then Two-Factor Authentication, and turn it on if it isn't already.

2. **Generate the app password**

Open "App Passwords" and generate a new one for "Relivo".

3. **Use it to connect**

Use that code as the password when you connect.

## Any other provider

- Check your provider's account security settings for IMAP and SMTP access. Some providers need you to turn it on.
- If your account uses two-factor authentication, look for an "app password" or "app-specific password" option. You need one instead of your normal password.
- Keep your provider's IMAP and SMTP server details (host and port) handy in case the connect form asks for them.
