Connect a mailbox with IMAP and an app password
Connect Google Workspace, Gmail, Yahoo, Zoho and most other providers with two-way sync, using an app password.
Other provider (IMAP / SMTP) connects almost any mailbox with Two-way sync: Relivo sends from your address, and email between you and your contacts comes back into Relivo. Most providers need an app password for this, not your normal sign-in password.
Before you start
Create an app password with your email provider first. Relivo shows the steps for the common providers, and these articles cover them in more detail:
- Create an app password for Gmail and Google Workspace
- Create an app password for Outlook, Yahoo or Zoho
Connect
Open the Email settings
Go to Settings > Email.
Start the setup
Under Connect a mailbox, click Set up next to Other provider (IMAP / SMTP). The Before you connect window opens.
Check the steps for your provider
Choose Gmail / Google Workspace, Outlook / Microsoft 365, Yahoo Mail, Zoho Mail or Other to see how to get an app password.
Continue to the connect form
Click Continue to connect. A secure connect form opens.
Sign in with the app password
Enter your email address, and use the app password as the password. If the form asks for server details, enter your provider’s IMAP and SMTP host and port.
Wait for setup to finish
You come back to Settings > Email. Your address shows under Connected mailbox, with the Setting up badge while Relivo gets your mailbox ready.
While it says Setting up
Relivo is indexing your mailbox’s folders. Sending and reply sync start once that finishes, which takes longer on a large mailbox. You can leave the page. When it’s done, the badge changes to Two-way sync.
If you try to send in the meantime, Relivo tells you your mailbox is still being set up. Wait, then send again.
Once it’s ready, Relivo also brings in your recent email with people who are already contacts, so their timelines aren’t empty on day one.
